River Forest High School has POTENTIAL to be a great school; however, there aren't enough students or staff who care enough to make the negative things better. The cafeteria is overly crowded at lunch time, and does anyone care? No, they do not. The lunchroom staff only cares about getting paid. Students wait up to TWENTY minutes to get a small lunch that doesn't even taste good, and sometimes there is a chance that they'll run out. The cafeteria was much faster and less crowded when it was smaller. No joke. The booths were a horrible idea. There's only room for four to six people at one booth & now the tables aren't even benches. They're individual seats. We don't fit in that lunch room.
On another note, River Forest does not even have an open library for students to use. I personally have many classmates who enjoyed going to the library in the morning to study. Many students used the computers during their study hall to finish reports and such. Other students used it to check out books for Reading Hour. Now the students don't even have this privelege.
As for Parent/Teacher Association, there is barely any. Teachers can't wait until 3:15 so that they can go home. There is no PTA at River Forest High School. There's no announcement about board meetings so that parents can attend to address their concerns about the school. As for support, I would hardly say that the staff supports the students. Around this area, River Forest is not spoken to highly of. I believe that because of this, the staff doesn't believe that their students can do well. Many senior students, myself as well, have been trying to get information about scholarships. We've been trying to get our applications ready to send to colleges, but can we do this? No, we can't. Why? We can't do this because the scholarship information hasn't been updated for 2008! I understand that the guidence counseler has a lot to deal with regarding schedules and PSATs coming up for juniors, but the senior class should be top priority. We have less than EIGHT months until graduation! We need help with applying to college and registering to take our SATs, and we can't get any of this help because nothing has been updated.
The computer labs at River Forest are horrible. There are three computer labs in the High School, but one is only for computer classes. The other two, only HALF of the computers work. Why is this? We recieved a large amount of money to repair our school and buy new supplies after the fire, yet we recieve computers that are hardly ever working? I don't understand the problem.
I've been enrolled at River Forest since 6th grade, and every year things get worse. Who would know River Forest better than anyone? The students. So take it from a current student, River Forest High School needs to do a lot of improving.
