I agree with the checking in and out review, being a little to easy and not very friendly. We just moved here and hope to get more resources from the school this year to meet friends, though girl scouts, ext. I think the communication could be better at the school for parent/teacher conferences- where we moved from you always met with the teacher to discuss your child and here that doesn't seem to be the norm. The school does seem to keep kids in line on the bus and in the school, which is fine, good. My overall impression of the school so far is fairly good, although we are new- I think the biggest factor for me to determine will be parent involvment at the school as teachers will change each year.

it is too easy for students to be checked out of school. everytime i check my child out they have never asked for indentification. they just take your word fro you saying you are the parent of a child. also i think if you are the first person people see when they come into the front office, you should be approachable and a little more friendly. if the job is too stressful, you should probably find another job.

I would feel much more capable in writing a review if I knew more about the school.
As a parent I would like to think I am quite involved in my child's education but honestly I am not informed enough. My child is in a gifted program and I do not receive feedback at all from that.
I like the teachers in fact her regular teacher is very good at taking some time to respond to me when I ask questions. I am very surprised that the materials offered are what I would consider behind the times. I have difficulty trying to wrap my mind around the "No child left behind" program.
As an individual with a learning disability who has struggled and was "left behind" I know that it makes a huge difference to those that may have difficulties, but what is sad it that advanced children are not really challenged. I do not believe that my child is that advanced but is more like a sponge who absorbs knowledge, much like all children.
I attempt to challenge my child in life but I think we should expect more from our schools and children, they are our future.
I have worked with children who have various disabilities so I know about struggles but I would strongly suggest that we try to push our kids in new ways, fun ways and challenging ways.. The teachers are perfectly capable of this and quite intelligent. What I see on my end is a backpack full of paper copies with no clear expectations or direction to them. I want to know what happens with my child is at school so i can help them reach goals and take hold of their future and this is frustrating to me because I do not know.
We need to be talking about cultural things, scientific breakthroughs, technology, history with depth and meaning, my child thinks outside of the box and we can take any subject and find a creative way to learn about it. "Education is Power" and can take any child anywhere they want to go.
Children are by nature hungry for knowledge, respect and guidelines that open their minds. Children want to have fun while learning.. Maybe if we adults spent time following our kids around seeing what they are into such as TV programs, games, toys, what they say to friends and so on we would be better teachers.. the children can show us how to teach them better, times are changing.
I say give the kids more and make Daniel Boone a school that kids never forget and a school that lifts kids into the future prepared and communicate better with parents, involve them. Currently my child is behind although they are "advanced" they need more. You are our hope and future.
I also do not know anything about the after school program.
I do like the teachers, and the principle is wonderful I know what he is capable and I hope to see him move these kids to a new place, better than the rest. Please feel free to contact me anytime and I will be happy to help or serve as time allows.
