It is shame that you have such poor leadership at your school district. There is nothing wrong with correcting a poor decision. The young man did nothing wrong. What made you check him or his vehicle for a knife?I believe that 75% of the country think that your actions are ridiculous.Stand up and do whats right.

Thank God there are people who have and apply common sense in this age of progressives-gone-wild. I'm not speaking of the administrators at Lansingburgh, but of those at West Point. Obviously, a bat is indeed a more dangerous weapon in school than a 2" pocket knife locked in a automobile that is part of a survival kit. The actions of the Vice-Principal are inexcusable and disciplinary action should be taken to correct ¬THEIR lack of common-sense. Matthew, obviously is not a trouble maker, probably in the National Honor Society and has in the past showed outstanding leadership abilities, which so far administrators at Lansingburgh School and board members at the District haven't shown. In my view, this young man has a brilliant future and is far better than the so-called adult educators around him. I hate to see puzzlewit educators attempt to crush the spirit of children. Private school is looking better and better every day.

As a 52 yrs. old man, A life Scout, I have carryed a knife for about 38 yrs. and yes I use it as a tool. You have a young MAN in you school that will soon be a US. Millatary man so you can keep your fredom as a teacher. Maybe you have it to easy in your life but in the real world some of us have to clean up your mess. I teach my boys to carry a knife at all time & encouage others also. Put him back in school & DROP his RECORD

As a 50 year old parent of 5 and an eagle scout myself, I cannot believe what the district did to Matthew Walen. I'm having trouble coming up with adjectives that describe the district's actions. All I can think of is ignorant, stupid, sightless, absurd, off-the-wall, insensitive, wrong, and pointless. This action is one more reason that I will not move my family into your district. And I expect many families will leave because of this.

I'm so happy that the school removed the pocket knife from the survival kit in the mean ole Eagle Scout's locked car. I feel so much safer now knowing that if I get trapped in my seatbelt, while drowning, he won't be able to rescue me. All the administration must be so proud that they have tried to turn a great kid into a wimp. 20 days suspension on his permanent record so he can't go to the college he wants; liberals gone wild! You won't be happy until you control every aspect of our lives.

My son is a senior and is thriving he loves Lansingburh and the education he is gaining. He wishes to succeed and strives to become a lhs teacher. He has gained only positive feedback and support from the staff, teachers and students. I am very very proud of him and wish to thank you all for your positive influences and the willingness to go that extra mile.......
