• What is ageism? How does ageism influence the presence of diversity in society?
Ageism is prejudice against a group who is of old age and discriminated against solely based on their age. This group is usually men and women whose age is 40 or older. Millions of people are barely making ends meet and are just above the poverty line at the present time 9.4% of seniors have incomes of $9,669 for a single person and 22.4% have an income of $12,186 for a couple which falls well under the poverty line. Because of insufficient funds the elderly are unable to have proper medical care, prescriptions and adequate housing if needed.

• What does the ADA provide for people with disabilities?
The Americans with Disabilities Act or ADA gives civil rights protections to people with disabilities equal rights. It gives equal opportunity for people with disabilities in employment, public accommodations, transportation, State and local government services and telecommunications. Employers for instance must give reasonably accommodate a person’s disability of all qualified applicants or employees, unless and undue hardship would result from it.
• How have people with disabilities been treated in the past?
People in the past thought of and treated people with disabilities as a disease; they did not have equal rights because of this. Until the Americans with Disabilities Act came into effect it was not required for a place of business or sidewalks even to be handicap accessible.
