INTRODUCTION
Discrimination separates people instead of uniting them. Discrimination also hampers the self-confidence and affects the psychology of the person being discriminated against. Prejudice causes several changes in society .Even though these changes might not be intended .Discrimination is a threat to democracy, democracy is based on the idea of a society in which all individuals enjoy equal rights and treatment irrespective of their caste , gender, wealth etc. Democracy recognizes the equal worth of all citizens and has laws that help prevent discrimination in …show more content…
Nowadays the emphasis has somewhat shifted from the enhancement of international security into national security: equ al protection o f all segments of the society and the furtherance of good community relations are seen as primary objectives for the sake of national integrity and security.
Discrimination not only forms a men ace to the so ciety, but also to the individual who is subjected to such an adverse treatment. Discrimination is a direct denial of the equal worth of the victim, and a s such, acts o f discrimination have a dual negative effect: the denial of a right, service or good that the person is entitled to, and the denial of the full and equal worth of that person. As such, it is a violation of a persons’ identity. Discrimination is made all the more grave by the fac t that it often takes place on grounds that are not subject to choice, such as ethnic or racial origin, sex, age, sexual orientation or disability. The consequences of discrimination match the severity of the offence: discrimination has a cau sal link e.g. to alienation, exclusion, radicalization, an d decreasing psychological w ell-being.
