5. The opening paragraphs about the case study states, “The purpose of the newspaper’s study was to evaluate the performance of the judges. Appeals are often the result of mistakes made by judges, and the newspaper wanted to know which judges were doing a good job and which were making too many mistakes” (182). If the newspaper’s purpose is to determine which judge is making the most mistakes, I feel it is appropriate to rank the judges based on who had the highest probability of a reversal given an appeal. a. In the Common Pleas Court, I feel Judge William Mathews has the highest probability of a case he oversees will be appealed and reversed.
