Walgreens Co. is the largest drugstore chain in the United States in terms of sales, receiving most of its revenue from retail prescriptions. These drugstores sell prescription and non-prescription drugs, and general merchandise. Its general merchandise consists of beauty care, personal care, household items, candy, photofinishing, greeting cards, seasonal items, convenience food and Walgreens offers an old-fashioned tonic for fiscal fitness. In 1994 Walgreens installed SIM (Strategic Inventory Management System), which united all of the purchasing-distribution sales cycle (Walgreen History, 2004). By 1997 the Intercom Plus system was installed which performed more than 200 functions and allow customers to order prescription using the keys on a push-bottom telephone. The Intercom Plus provides patients with an information sheet that include a picture and description of what the medication looks like. The system provided customer to cut in half the time they spent waiting for prescription. In 1999, Walgreens.com, an online pharmacy began to offer customer a suitable and secure way to take care of many pharmaceutical and healthcare needs online. One-hour photo was also implemented in nearly all the stores and was also available for ordering through the internet. In 2002 they became the first to offer prescription labels in various languages and in 2004 large type prescription instruction was introduced for those with vision impairment. Drive through prescription service was implemented in nearly 1200 pharmacies as well as 24/7 hours services to further enhance the customer needs.
