What I learned from the Discovery Wheel
Once I finished filling out the Discovery Wheel I noticed that the three highest scores were in Purpose, Attitude and Diversity. While the lowest scores where on Money, Notes and Tests. I started with the highest scores first but my favorite are the lower scores since they make me practice positive thinking.
Purpose
As an IT Representative for a company in Puerto Rico, I have acquired lots of knowledge in the Information Technology industry. I’ve been looking for an opportunity to gain better skills and acquire new knowledge to support my success in my workplace. Studying full time, while working full time is a big …show more content…
I discovered that taking notes is a process that consists on observing, recording and reviewing. Since I know I’m pretty good when it comes to observation and reviewing, I decided to try different ways on recording. For example; I discovered an application called “Dragon Dictation” which allows me to record my notes in audio and the program writes them for me. I also setup my computer so I can have a virtual notepad on one corner of the screen, this way I can take my notes by using my keyboard since I’m pretty quick at it. These are great tools indeed but that doesn’t mean I won’t continue working on my hand writing skills.
Tests
It’s been so long since I’ve actually took a test, that I actually didn’t award high scores to the “Tests” part of the Discovery Wheel. I’m a little rusty when it comes to test taking so I need to start developing new techniques and remembering the ones I used to use. I will not let my first test get me unprepared. I will do daily reviews of my notes and course materials for at least two hours. I’ll create a study checklist that I would review one day before the test. I will develop different strategies depending on the kind of test I will be taking, like changing study locations. I will also look for ways of lowing tension before and after the test, like doing some exercise or listening to some good music. I believe that the Becoming a Master Student book is not just a book, it’s a great guide
