However, due to government regulation against such business, founder Yap Tik Huay decided to convert it into a fish farm instead. The ornamental fish industry requires specialized knowledge and equipment. KM is essential in aiding Qian Hu’s decision-making process through collation of relevant information that should lead to more efficient dissemination of the latter. KM creates value for Qian Hu by continuously improving the company’s processes and efficiency in its operations; thereby contributing to the company’s sustainability. By applying experience-based knowledge in quality maintenance and innovation of its products and services, it differentiates itself from its competitors.
Since Qian Hu is currently positioned as a “one-stop shop” for ornamental fish-related needs, knowledge management is most useful when all aspects (organizational, technological, and ecological) are addressed. The technological aspect of KM requires that the company invest on a cloud knowledge management system that allows for data storage, easy access, and online scheduling and communication.
