The training gained could also be “passed down” the chain of command thus perhaps forging stronger working relationships – everyone gains from training and the boost to self-worth and self-confidence this would achieve. If staff do have to be lost, we have the issue again of staff morale and the what if I am next fear; this should not be overlooked as not being an issue, the staff must be treated fairly and as honestly as possible, it’s no good making promises that cannot be kept. This may present to be an ideal opportunity to discuss the need for counselling this should be researched and the strategy discussed for the best way to implement it.
Suggestions for managing the situation: * ensure that top management demands are not unreasonable * provide additional resources to cope with extra workload * provide confidential counselling for middle managers, professionals and their staff * set up support groups for middle managers and professionals
It may be necessary to take resolute action to challenge staff who are persistent in resisting change and unable to move on in a positive frame of mind. This will form the KPI. 6. Describe how to communicate responsibilities for staff welfare to the team
