It is expected that natural attrition in this bracket will result in a skills shortage within the organisation, and even with the prediction of a labour downsizing strategy in the next 2 – 4 years, there will no doubt be skills gaps that will need to be addressed. Internal commercial reviews undertaken on the forecasted volume reductions within the organisation have shown scenarios of dropping operational structure down to 8 hour, 5 day week structure with the decommissioning of one of the three presses to accommodate gaps in the schedule. This forecast has predicted a downsizing strategy which will impact 20 – 25 skilled roles within the workforce, and an additional 15 roles within the unskilled roles in the workforce. In analysing the natural attrition of the aging workforce, and the lack of planned skills upgrades within the unskilled labour sector it would be safe to assume that skills gaps will be apparent in the projected 2 – 4 year period of anticipated downsize.
