A sudden illness can be classed as a stroke or heart attack which in this situation would follow the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR) act. In my work setting any of the any of the above can happen but have had a few incidents in the past that involved staff calling ambulances as the clientele we get in can have drug/alcohol issues, they could have medical problem such as diabetes and heart problems. Working in a homeless hostel we have all ages which makes this a very high risk place for self harm as the stress of being homeless can effect people emotionally which in fact effects there health.

Explain procedures to be followed if an accident or sudden illness should occur.

If someone is to collapse with an unknown illness then first things to do is to see if it is safe to approach, call the emergency services. See if they need CPR or to stop bleeding if so, do it. Then after the customer has been seen to and took to hospital then we have to fill out an incident form and send off to the health and safety worker within the company so they can assess the risk and they might need to update the risk assessment for the scheme.

Explain own role in supporting others to follow practices that reduce the spread of infection.
