Microsoft Visio is the easiest of any of the tools for an end user or database design to read, interpret and modify.
Database Selection In my experience of BI, the mainstream database tool that is used in most companies is Microsoft SQL Server. Microsoft SQL Server BI Tools has the ability to build the database structure and have BI Tools on top of the database to directly analyze data through cubes using Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services and can also serve up custom reports straight from SharePoint or another service using SQL Server Reporting Services. The users can connect to the cubes using Microsoft Excel Pivot tables, or one of the of the Microsoft tools like Microsoft Power Query or Microsoft Power Pivot.
