At 1:00 p.m. I entered into Evoline C. West Elementary school on Thursday, July 12 2012 for an interview with Mrs. Yolanda Lawrence. As I entered the classroom, I was greeted by Mrs. Lawrence, the head teacher in this classroom. Mrs. Lawrence has no assistant at this present because of it being in the summer. After I entered into the classroom, the entire class welcomed me with “hello Ms. Flournoy”. It made my day to see all of those smiley faces greeting me. Mrs. Lawrence: Sometimes I sing, I may ask questions, or I may tell a story they can relate too. I may use manipulative to get their attention. It really depends on the lesson.
Theresa: How do you decide on an activity based on the lesson?
Mrs. Lawrence: Usually it is based on what they need. Some may need hands on experience, some may need to write/draw, and some may need a game. If I am using centers, I will have them rotate so they all can go to each group.
Theresa: Mrs. Lawrence you have been a jewel. This is my final question. How do you reflect about the lesson you taught and how would that reflection assist you in planning future lessons?
Mrs. Lawrence: I spend some time asking my student before I start the lesson what they thought about the lesson the day before or when we get through with a lesson, I would ask them what they thought
about the lesson. When it pertains to future planning, I would see what I need to change, do again or don’t do again. In conclusion, the interview with Mrs. Lawrence was so much fun and her class was so much fun and enjoyable. Observing a lesson plan was important to me as becoming a teacher and shows me that I certainly can do this as a teacher.
