Vlad Dracula was born in the winter of 1431 in Sighisoura,Transylvania. Vlad’s father who is Vlad II came from a family of princes from the state of Wallacia. In the same year Vlad III was born, his father traveled to Nuremberg, Germany and became a member of the Order of the Dragon. The Order of the Dragon was select group of European royalty appointed by the head of the Holy Roman Empire, Emperor Sigismund ,who held power over most of Western Europe. These men were dedicated to crusading against the Ottoman Turks, whose faith was Islam, and defending the Empire in the name of the Cross . After six years in exile Vlad’s chance to rule the throne had come. The Turks raised an army and Murad II put Vlad in charge. In the meantime, Hunyadi launched another crusade joining with Vladislav II and started pushing through the Turkish territory trying to destroy it by burning fields and robbing houses. Vlad took advantage of this and snuck in to the deserted city of Targoviste and declared himself prince. Not long after, Vladislav II and his army came back to Wallacia and defeated Vlad and his army, taking the throne from him. Vlad was now on the run.
Hunyadi wanted to chase Vlad out of the country but soon lost hope in Vladislav II and ended up turning to Vlad. He put Vlad in charge of the southern border of Sibiu to defend it from the Turks. In 1456, Vlad finally defeated Vladislav II and became Prince of Wallacia.
Dracula wanted to cleanse his kingdom so that everyone would respect and fear him. Around 1457, he invited all the boyars, who were the royal nobility, on Easter Sunday to his palace in Targoviste for a feast. He wined and dined them and asked them how many rulers they have seen in their lifetime. Most of them replied that they had seen twelve or more. This showed him they had no respect for their prince and had the place surrounded by his guards and took them all on a death march to his mountain lair to rebuild Castle Dracula where they worked side by side with the
