Conformity Speech
I strongly believe that individuality should be valued over conformity. Today I will tell you how precious and rare individuality is, and why we should value it over conformity.
As human beings, our lives are circled around a thin line that separates conformity and individuality. There are countless times when we are confused about whether our choice was made by others, or yourself. Deep inside, we all want to be liked; we all want to be loved, we all crave the warm feelings of acceptance from others, or in other words, to conform: yes, that’s why we put our hands up for the most popular choice in the class, that’s why homosexuals and bisexuals are teased and pointed at, only because they are different from the most,

We need rebels; we need individuals that stand out in the conformed crowd and create new paths for the rest of us. That is simply how we improve and create new things. In the movie “10 Things I Hate About You”, Kat represented the girl who doesn’t care about what people think of her, the girl who isn’t liked by the most, the girl who has her own ideas and lives up to her own expectations and no one else’s. It was Kat who taught her father, a conformist in believing teenagers are untrustworthy, that being over-protective is no use; it was Kat who taught the conformist Bianca, that hot, rich, popular and the dream guy that any girl would go out with, is not so perfect at all. This tells us that, individuality improves our lives and gives us new beliefs without us even knowing it. A famous editorial page editor, interactive editor and the member of the National Conference of Editorial Writers, has once said: “You don’t get harmony when everybody sings the same note.” This quote means that, if you keep doing things like what everyone does, what you’ll get is what you’ve already got. So why doesn’t anyone do things in a new, whole different way? Because we are afraid, because we are willing to betray our own way of judging just to impress others. That is how powerful conformity is, that is also how much MORE powerful individuality is. How much MORE priceless and valuable
