3.1 Leadership Theories
There are a number of theories that apply to leadership these include:

The Trait Theory - This assumes that people inherit certain qualities and traits that make them suited to become a leader. The trait theory often interprets that people are born with the characteristics of a leader and have certain behavioural patterns shared by leaders. This includes confidence, integrity, warmth and fairness like stated earlier.
Contingency Theory - This theory focus’ on an environment that might determine the outcome on a leaders skills and if they are best suited to the situation. According to this no leadership is the best and success depends on their style, qualities and how the employees follow their leader.

The “Great Man” Theory - This states that leaders are “born to lead” and that skills are inherited within a person. This portrays a person as a heroic figure and someone to look up to in the work place. The term was used because at he time a male was seen as the gender to portray a leader role.
