Individual and Person
1 Understand anatomy and physiology in relation to moving and positioning individuals
1.1 Outline the anatomy and physiology of the human body in relation to the importance of correct moving and positioning of individuals
Our bodies have many muscles and bones, these working together help the human body move. Certain muscles with certain bones will work together to move the part of the body. When a muscle contracts it will pull the bones at the joint in the correct direction that it is designed to move. When mobility is reduced and muscles do not get exercise these muscles will be floppy and will make movement slower and more difficult. When moving people it …show more content…
The risk or hazard should then be removed to prevent any injury to the service user or member of staff.
3.5 Describe what action should be taken if the individual’s wishes conflict with their plan of care in relation to health and safety and their risk assessment
In some workplaces their policies and procedures in moving and handling may conflict the persons wishes. For example, there may be a no lifting policy and this means the client will need to be hoisted but the person may not like the hoist. To help prevent any conflicts it is good to involve the person in their own risk assessment. Where possible in the risk assessment you could give them the choice of their moving and handling requirements, as they have best knowledge of their mobility. This also helps promote their independence. With their wishes they need to be balanced with the carers so they and the carers are not put at risk. Their condition can improve or get worse and their wishes will change on how they want to be moved, it is important that it is documented and informed to the supervisors or manger.

5.3 Describe the aids and equipment that may be used for moving and positioning
Some moving and handling equipment is covered by the Lifting Operation and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER). Hoist, slings and bath hoists are all pieces
