Ratio Analysis
The following is a listing of some of the ratios to be aware of in analyzing a company's balance sheet and income statement. These ratios fall into four categories liquidity, profitability, asset management (efficiency), and debt management (leverage). How to find information on industriesThe United States Government is currently in transition between two systems of classifying American industry. The older Standard Industrial Classification Manual (http://www.osha.gov/oshstats/sicser.html) lists government SIC codes 4 digit numbers used to identify industries. The new system, North American Industry Classification System (NAICS codes) (http://www.census.gov/epcd/www/naics.html) provides common industry definitions for Canada, Mexico, and the United States. This system will be phased in and eventually replace the SIC code. A comparison of the two systems can be found at http://www.census.gov/epcd/www/naicstab.htm.
